The EIA value is a statewide average across residential customers. Your utility, rate plan, usage tier, time of use, fixed charges, riders, taxes, and credits can produce a different effective rate.
What is the difference between a rate change and a bill change?
A rate change affects the price paid per kilowatt-hour. A bill change can also come from using more or less electricity and from changes to fixed charges, riders, taxes, or credits.
Why is the newest EIA electricity-rate month delayed?
Utilities report monthly sales, revenue, customer, and price data to EIA after the month ends. EIA then validates and publishes the figures, so the newest complete month trails the calendar.
